Future of Artificial Intelligence

Contrary to the popular belief that computers are going to become sentient and destroy humans, Artificial Intelligence promises a future that is full of amazing possibilities. Its development is analogous to the Industrial Revolution that completely changed the world as we know it.
Whenever a person thinks of AI they think something in the lines of the ‘Jarvis’ from the movie Iron Man. That is an exaggerated portrayal of technology. It is often misunderstood, and people do not seem to realize that they are already using AI in their daily lives.
To truly grasp the prospect of AI we must have a basic understanding of how the algorithms work. And, no, computers will not get consciousness any time soon.
How many types of AI
It categorizes aI technology into different types. The most common of it is Narrow AI. It is the type of AI that works on the availability of sample data and performs a single task with extraordinary efficiency.
It is based on ‘Machine Learning’ and has the most potential. A computer can learn from experiences and generate better and more accurate results with time. The only limitation is the amount of sample data you have.
Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa are all virtual AI assistant that is based on this. We see this all day along with Facebook’s auto tag system which recognizes the face of a person in a photo. Or simply giving voice commands to electronic devices. From Youtube’s algorithm that suggests the recommended videos to auto-correct text feature, all this is part of the new era of Artificial Intelligence.
Lately, every industry is being automated. The future will bring more advanced systems that are going to make our lives more productive and efficient. And frankly, it is the more realistic version of AI that we have the chance to take the world to new heights.
Building on this we will have autonomous cars soon and self-driving ones which are already here thanks to Tesla. The technology is improving day by day. We see robots performing extraordinary tasks in factories which are bringing a revolution in the manufacturing industry.
The field of medicine is also influenced by AI. With advanced systems, it can diagnose the disease early on. With the pandemic going on, AI is helping to make virtual nursing assistants a possibility.
What is General AI
The other type which is romanticized a lot by Hollywood is the ‘General’ Artificial Intelligence. The idea behind this is that creating a computer so powerful that it can think like a human being and perform intellectual tasks. This will drastically change the future of humankind. This fantasy is plausible, and immense theoretical work has been done on it.
Researchers around the globe are working on developing such systems. Although such technology does not exist right now, the idea of a future with general Artificial Intelligence may not remain a dream for too long. With Quantum Computers, humans have increased the processing capability of machine manifolds.
What about the future of AI
The future of Artificial intelligence is bright, and it is an emerging field of study. There is a common concern that Artificial Intelligence will affect our lives negatively by taking the average person’s job but that is simply not true. With more advancement comes more opportunities and open doors to new types of work. AI is a giant leap for humanity, and we are a lucky generation to witness it.
